I’ve been trying to ignore the signs – the street lights being loaded into place high above the town streets, the wrapping paper in the shops and the inevitable prompts to ‘book your Christmas groceries now. ‘
But when it comes to getting organised for an expat Christmas, I can’t put it off any longer, and luckily I’ve just found the perfect solution.
For years, it was the other way around of course. I would be watching the mail cut-off dates religiously ensuring I didn’t miss the deadline for post to Australia from New Zealand. I did miss it occasionally and once even had to ring Darrell Lea in Queensland on the night before Christmas Eve and beg them to send a huge box of choccy’s to Dad for Christmas lest I run the gauntlet of his wrath for ‘being forgotten’.
You’d think I would have learnt my lesson. But each year around about now I try to shake myself out of my Christmas denial in time to get things organised for my Aussie and Kiwi relatives. But this year it’s going to be different, because I’ve discovered Antipodean Love – a fabulous online gift shop that sends beautiful and quirky gifts from ‘the heart of Australia and New Zealand’.
Many of my Kiwi cuzzies now live in Australia, though there are a couple who live in Scotland, so sending something gorgeous from Antipodean Love will be perfect!
I think this cute Alphabet frieze would be lovely for the new Kiwi baby in Scotland -
And these earrings would be lovely for a dear English friend who needs a little Kiwi in her life!
Then there’s this lovely, unique laid-back Koala bear to satisfy the Aussie friends now living over here in Europe.
Whilst I can see myself snuggling into this Toi Toi cushion. They call it Pampas grass over here I believe, but I still think of it as Toi toi and it reminds me of home.
Be Quick for Christmas
I need to rattle my dags and get a move on if I’m to make the post for Christmas and this year I’m determined.
Go and have a look at Antipodean Love for yourself and your Aussie and Kiwi inclined friends and family. I was won over by the quality, cute and quirky goodies but most of all by the thought of sending a heart-felt present from home.
