You might have noticed a little tumble weed through the blog over the past week. Uh huh? Well I’m back now – all tired but tanned, sleepy but smiling, and home now for a holiday from our 6 day holiday in Italy. Whilst I’m rattling up some blog posts about all the wonderful things we saw and did, here’s a pix for the Photo a day July meme – Cup.
This was taken at the little local cafe – Nick Nowego’s just across the cobble stoned Piazza, directly across the alley way from Santa Maria in Trastevere. We loved staying in Trastevere (across the Tiber from the touristy hot spots) in a real Roman neighbourhood, complete with cafes, osteria, and night markets that sold enough shiny shiny stuff to do a magpie’s head in!
During the day the locals would stroll past the cafes walking their dogs, or children, perhaps stopping at the water fountain to have a cooling wash, or by the magnificent Santa Maria church to make peace with God and Mary. The hum of the passing crowds rose with the later afternoon humidity and then at about 5 o’clock a music man would take his position on the temporary stage erected for the Trastevere music show, and the mellow sounds of guitar and jazzy vocals melted into the evening melee as the sun slid into the black.
The coffee at Nick Nowego’s was strong enough to almost require an IV and the best part was that there was WIFI, which meant I would have a coffee there each day and try to post pix onto Instagram about our travels, like this one…
