Take no prisoners

by vix 25 March 2010

“You know what would be really helpful?

“If you actually got off your arse and did your job!

“Stop taking the clients to lunch and start closing some deals!”

I didn’t see the fist. Thankfully it just missed my chin. I could however see the whites of the Sales Manager’s eyes.

They were white with fury!

I was the young Brand Manager on a hell-bent take-no-prisoners course to the top.

I wince when I think back about how I handled the situation, and the way I didn’t handle myself. My only excuse? I was young and ambitious.

The rest is still unwritten

by vix 24 March 2010

I am the written but unpublished page.
The lines of text form the story of my days
The chapters of my years
The unpublished dreams, the spent tears.
I am the writer who lives to write first, breathe second.
I don’t fear the dark shadows, or the stories laced with dark foreboding.
The dark times illuminate the light, so next time I will have foresight.
I’m all these stories, all these places, all these times, all these faces.
At times the heroine, the lost, the adventurer the traveller…

I am all these themes, all these characters, all these lives, some written but not yet published. Others not yet dreamt.

I AM KIWI

by vix 24 March 2010

Hang onto these. Take care of them and DON’T LOSE THEM!!!”

I warned my Son as I passed over the passports and visa documents. He was taking them to school to photocopy them for his college application.

My brown eyed boy, he who didn’t speak till he was three, didn’t walk till he was 18 months old but could read at 12 months old, is finishing school on the 18th June.

He rolled his eyes. The expression said – ‘Yeah yeah Mum, God!! What do you think I’ll do with them? Take a chill pill’

Help please!

by vix 24 March 2010

This is Susie from New Day New Lesson. I owe Vicki my sanity so here I am writing instead of her today because she so graciously gave me loads of her time last night.

Help Please

That was my plea to Vicki last night. I was on the verge of having a meltdown.

I know. It was stupid to take the plunge and move to a self-hosted blog when you have absolutely no knowledge of building websites and have no idea what HTML, SQL or codex is. Even worse, it is really stoooopid to even think about it when you have a major lack of time on your hands.

Send Me an Angel

by vix 23 March 2010

The Sydney streets were deserted. Nicely so.

I walked home in the cool of the middle night dreamtime. The moon winked and owls screeched, as did tyres on tarceal a street or two over.

I wasn’t scared. I didn’t whistle a happy tune, rather I sang a little as I walked past the deserted takeaway bars, past the laundromat and the fantastic Glebe bookshop where I spent all my spare time. I’d never before seen a bookshop with couches where you could read before you buy! It even had ladders to reach the out-of-the-way books! Amazing!

I am cougar hear me roar!

by vix 22 March 2010

I’m in denial.

I think the cougar is beautiful.

I trust only L’Oreal Colour 10 hair dye with the knowledge of my true hair colour.

I wax away all other evidence of silver. (ssh *down below*)

I applied a smashed up kiwifruit to my face the other day. I figured if it tenderises meat it could tenderise life’s etchings around my pursed mouth, or under my exhausted eyes. I bathed my eyes and accompanying baggage in Tetley’s.

My daughter thought I looked beautiful. Though she laughed a little too hysterically when she said that.

This is London

by vix 22 March 2010

I went to London on the train last week. I had to go and have my fill of the big city. I miss the food, the culture, the coffee bars, yes even the dirt on the Tube! I miss that hum, that imperceptible buzz of millions of people’s hearts beating the bass line. The city pulses.

I went to the Borough markets and had an excellent Thai curry, and popped into The Tate to see Le Baisier (my old friend from that day at the Musee Rodin!). I had a great time reconnecting with London, a new blogging friend and myself.

Why can’t we be friends?

by vix 21 March 2010

It’s so funny, how we don’t talk anymore!

Can men and women be friends? I’m beginning to wonder. Recently a couple of my really good males friends have repartnered. Ever since the arrival of the lovely leading ladies in their lives – and truly, bully for them it is excellent news – they have fallen silent. No more discussions about life the universe and everything. No more over-sharing, or just plain sharing as buddies do.What happened to our friendship?

When my generation first met Harry and Sally, we all puzzled over that question: Can Men and Women just be friends?

Kids Say the Funniest things

When my dear Son was a little chap, aged about four he loved those gimicky ‘rides’ they often have outside supermarkets and shops. These days they’re likely to be good old Postman Pat delivering the post, but in our time it could have been a Wiggles  or Barney ride.

My Son loved them. Whenever he accompanied me to the shops he would have a full-on paddy if I didn’t dutifully feed the machine with 20cent pieces and let him ride Sally ride…

Great Expectations

by vix 18 March 2010

I’ll always have that image of poor Miss Havisham in her weevil eaten wedding dress waiting in the attic, in my head.

I wonder sometimes; is it easier to have great expectations and court disappointment, or under-expect and be nonplussed?

I do try to roll with the punches. I try to take it as it comes and all those other ‘easy’ poster slogans.

I try, but I don’t always suceed.
