Red Light District

What do the animals do when it is frosty outside?

The poor wee defenceless creatures are stuck in the ice and snow. No food, no creature comforts. I was wondering this as I sat at my desk in the corner of my bedroom yesterday. I looked out the window and all I could see was white. It looked so very beautiful.

Fresh, pure, unadulterated.

Of course, this is a very nice neighbourhood. A very quiet little country town, featuring one supermarket (Sainsburys), a couple of sad looking charity shops, banks and a rather large government establishment.

I’ve been snowed in for days (months it seems) by pure choice as driving in the ice and snow is not top of my ‘things I must do before I die’ list. Indeed I may well achieve death should I try. It is getting a little too much and I fear I may start licking the walls if I don’t get out soon.

The dog and I have been left pretty much alone at home whilst my Englishman heads out to earn a living. Of course as he is from up north, he’s used to the snow. I think he even likes it. I’m finding it difficult however, to run the household and we are running low on stocks now. The situation is getting somewhat critical.

For breakfast this is what we had.
Englishman: porridge with hot water. Ugh!
Bewildered me: (Vegemitevix) left over peshwari naan bread
The bear: four sausages.
As you can see it is a good thing the snow is starting to thaw. I’m running out of wine. (Not that I typically have wine for breakfast!) I need essentials dammit!
As I was working yesterday I looked out my window for a break and was pondering how the animals were faring in the weather after the RSPB had warned that the poor birds aren’t getting enough to eat. I don’t think we need to worry, the animals appear to be making the most of the weather and keeping warm the best way they know how…..

This is what I saw. (Parental warning: 12A)

Yep. There goes the neighbourhood. Guess I’ll be picking up a red light at the supermarket when I get out.

Hi there – I'm back in the land of the Long White Cloud after enduring the crippling heat of Sydney! It's pleasant and drizzly here in Auckland – lovely after the heat of Australia. I do hope that you have managed to stock up on supplies – although I am most envious of anyone who gets to experience a white Christmas. Enjoy the peace before your tribe return :-)
